[Indications]

warm disease exterior heat syndrome/pattern. fever, slight aversion to cold, without sweating or poor sweating, headache, cough, sore throat, thirst, fluid retention, red tip of tongue, thin white or yellow coating, floating pulse.

[Prescription]

This formula is suitable for external contraction and is one of the representative formulas for releasing exterior with pungent-cool. In the prescription, Yinhua, Forsythia clearing heat and removing toxin, and are clear and transparent, with the effect of releasing exterior with pungent-cool; combination of medicinals Mentha, Great Burdock Achene releasing exterior with pungent-cool, disinhibiting benifiting the pharynx throat; Fermented Soybean, Schizonepeta dispersing wind penetrates the surface. Although it is pungent, it is warm but not drying. It can be used together with various heat-clearing medicines to strengthen the power of releasing exterior with pungent-cool; it can be used with Lophatherum Herb Clearing the heat of upper energizer, enhancing the effect of Single Flower, Forsythia clearing heat and removing toxin; Platycodon Root ventilating lung Liquorice Root has the effect of resolving phlegm and relieving cough; Reed Rhizome clearing heat and promoting fluid production to quench thirst; Liquorice Root Reconcile medicines.

This prescription is used in spring and summer and has better curative effect.

[Addition and subtraction]

1. Heat or severe sore throat: add Isatis Root, Skullcap Root, gypsum, common andrographis herb.

3. Upset interior heat: add Gardenia, Anemarrhena, Skullcap Root.
4. Excessive thirst: add Snakegourd Root and gypsum.
5. For severe cough: add Bitter Apricot Seed and Coltsfoot Flower.
6. Chest tightness and anorexia: Add Patchouli and Curcuma Root.
7. lung qi failing in dispersion cough: combined Ephedra, Bitter Apricot Seed, Gypsum and Licorice Decoction.
