bubble_chart Formula Principles
This prescription is suitable for syndromes of wind-heat invading the lungs, or wind-cold stagnating and transforming into heat, obstructing lung qi. In the formula, the dosage of Gypsum is more than twice that of Ephedra, used to moderate the warm and pungent nature of Ephedra and transform it into a use of clearing heat with pungent-cool medicinals. The combination of these two herbs clears and ventilates lung heat to relieve wheezing; Bitter Apricot Seed promotes the descending of lung qi and works synergistically with Ephedra to calm wheezing; Liquorice Root tonifies qi and harmonizes the middle, regulating the effects of the various herbs. When paired with Gypsum, its sweet and cold nature can promote fluid production to quench thirst and also prevent the Great Cold (24th solar term) from damaging the stomach.
