"Da" (大), big; "dun" (敦) means thick or substantial, referring to the shape of distal segment of big toe, which resembles a round, covered vessel (an ancient bronze vessel used for holding grain).

Dadun (LR1) acupoint (改編自"Meridians and Acupoints")
On the lateral side of distal segment of big toe, 0.1 cun from the corner of toenail.
  • LingshuBenshu: "At the tip of big toe and among the three hairs";
  • Zhenjiu Jiayi Jing: "One leek leaf width from the corner of toenail and among the three hairs";
  • Zhenjing Zhaiying Ji: "On the lateral side of the tip of big toe." Specifically, on the lateral side of big toe, 0.1 cun posterior to the lateral corner of toenail, in the depression.
  • Zhenjiu Jicheng: "0.4 cun posterior to the root of toenail, anterior to the joint." This locates the point on dorsum of big toe, between toenail root and toe joint, near the cluster of hairs (three hairs). For moxibustion, this location can be used.
