Named after the branching of collateral vessel. Huangdi Neijing Taisu Yang Shang-shan note: "Liver wood is 'grandfather' (公), heart fire is 'child' (子), and spleen earth is 'grandson' (孫). This acupoint is located on the vessel of 'grandson', hence it is named Gongsun (公孫)."

On the medial side of foot, in the depression anterior and inferior to the base of first metatarsal bone, 1 cun posterior to Taibai (SP3 ), within abductor hallucis muscle.
- Lingshu‧Jingmai: "1 cun posterior to metatarsophalangeal joint";
