bubble_chart Etymology

"Zhi" (支, interchangeable with 肢) refers to limb, specifically forearm; "gou" (溝) refers to the depression on radial side of extensor muscles of forearm. The point is located in this area, hence its name. It is also known as Feihu (飛虎, flying tiger) (see Zhenjiu Daquan ), Zhenfang Liuji: "When the tiger's mouth (the web between thumb and index finger) is crossed, the middle finger points to this point, hence the name."

On extensor aspect of forearm, 3 cun proximal to dorsal wrist crease, between ulna and radius, on the line connecting Yangchi/ACU> (SJ 4) and the tip of elbow.

  • Lingshu-Benshu: "3 cun above wrist, in the depression between two bones".

  • Muscles: extensor digiti minimi, extensor pollicis longus; deep layer, interosseous membrane of forearm.
  • Nerve: deep branch of posterior cutaneous nerve of forearm; deep layer, posterior interosseous nerve.
  • Vessels: deep part, anterior interosseous artery and posterior artery and vein of forearm.

Perpendicular insertion 0.5~1 cun. Moxibustion with moxa cone 3 to 5 minutes, moxibustion with moxa stick for 5 to 15 minutes.

Clear heat, promote bowel movement, disinhibit chest and hypochondriac region.

  • Classical: febrile diseases, vomiting, constipation, edema, heart pain, eye pain, pharyngeal swelling, tinnitus, deafness, lockjaw, sudden loss of voice, soreness and heaviness of shoulder and arm, acute pain in armpit and rib-side, stiffness of neck, pain in elbow and arm, finger spasm, numbness of fingers, postpartum dizziness due to hemorrhage.
