"Di" (地) refers to the lower part; "cang" (倉) , warehouse. Face is divided into three courts: the area above nose is the upper court (heaven), nose itself is the middle court (human), and the area below nose is the lower court (earth). The acupoint is located beside the corner of mouth, within the lower court of face. The oral cavity serves as the entry point for receiving food and water, hence the name. Because it is close to the corner of mouth, it is also called "Weiwei" (Zhenjiu Jiayi Jing and Waitai Miyao mistakenly write it as "Huiwei").
On face, lateral to the corner of mouth, directly below pupil, near the lower end of nasolabial groove. It is 0.4 cun lateral to the corner of mouth and on the midline of eye.
Pinch the muscle at the corner of mouth and insert the needle subcutaneously toward Jiache (ST 6) for 1-1.5 cun.
Dispell pathogenic wind, unblock qi stagnation, facilitate joint movement.
