The rhizomes are harvested when the stems and leaves wither in winter, boiled or steamed until thoroughly cooked, dried in the sun, the fibrous roots are removed, and thick slices are cut for use.
The rhizome of Curcuma Root, mainly produced in Zhejiang, is called "Sliced Turmeric," and its efficacy is basically the same as Turmeric, with a superior effect in treating shoulder and arm pain. - Used for heart, abdominal, chest, hypochondriac pain caused by blood stasis and qi stagnation, amenorrhea, postpartum abdominal pain, and traumatic injuries. This product is pungent and warm, capable of invigorating blood and removing stagnation, dispersing stasis and unblocking stagnation to relieve pain. For heart and abdominal pain, it is used with Chinese Angelica, Aucklandia Root, Lindera, such as in Shengji Zonglu Turmeric Powder; clinically, it is often used with Corydalis Tuber, Lindera, Cassia Central Bark, such as in Danxi Xinfa Qi-Pushing Powder; for amenorrhea or postpartum abdominal pain, it is used with Chinese Angelica, Sichuan Lovage Rhizome, Carthamus, etc.; for traumatic injuries, it is often used with Sappan Wood, frankincense, etc., such as in the "Traumatology Formula Book" Turmeric Decoction.
- Used for wind-dampness arm pain. This product is pungent, warm, and slightly bitter, capable of externally dispersing wind-cold dampness, internally moving qi and blood, unblocking meridians to stop pain, especially effective in relieving pain in the limbs and arms. It is often used with Notopterygium, Saposhnikovia Root, Chinese Angelica, etc., for dispelling wind-dampness and activating blood.
