[Variety Source]

This product is the mature seed kernel of Nutmeg (Myristica fragrans Houtt.), a tall tree plant of the Nutmeg family. It is mainly produced in Malaysia and Indonesia; it is also cultivated in Guangdong, Guangxi and Yunnan in mainland China. Harvest when the fruits are mature in winter and spring. Remove the skin, dry, and simmer to remove oil.

[Indications]

  1. It is used for spleen, kidney deficiency, cold and chronic diarrhea. Nutmeg is pungent, warm and astringent. It can not only astringe intestines and check diarrhea, but also warm the middle and spleen. To treat deficiency-cold of spleen and stomach and chronic diarrhea, it is often used with Cassia Bark, Tangshen, White Atractylodes Rhizome, Chebula Fruit can be used equally to warm the middle to strengthen the spleen, astringing intestines and checking diarrhea; to treat spleen stomach yang deficiency and diarrhea before dawn, it can be used with Psoralea, Schisandra Fruit and Evodia Fruit are used together, such as Four Miracle Pill.
  2. Used for stomach cold distending pain and vomiting when eating less. This product has spicy aroma, warm dryness, warming the middle, moving qi, and analgesic effect. It can be used for symptoms such as stomach cold qi stagnation, abdominal distension and fullness pain, lack of food and vomiting. Often used synonymously with Aucklandia Root, Dried Ginger, and Pineilia.

[Usage and Dosage]

[Precaution]

Damness-heat should not be used in patients with diarrhea.

[Modern Pharmacology]

Nutmeg contains 5% to 15% volatile oil, Nutmeg ether, Clove phenol, iso-Clove phenol and a variety of terpene compounds. The volatile oil contained in Nutmeg has aromatic stomachic and carminative effects, and has significant anesthetic properties. The whitefruit amomim fruit ether in it has a hallucinogenic effect on the normal human body. Its terpenes have antibacterial properties.
