bubble_chart Etymology "Yuan" (淵), deep, "ye" (腋), armpit. The point is located deep in the armpit, hence the name. "腋" can also be written as "液" or "掖," as these three characters were used interchangeably.
In Beiji Qianjin Yaofang, the name was changed to "泉腋" (Quanye) to avoid using the character "淵," which was part of the name of Emperor Gaozu of Tang (Li Yuan), due to naming taboos.
