[Origin]

The acupoint is on the side of the neck and is sunken like a "pool". It is a place where wind evil easily invades. It is also an important acupoint for treating wind syndrome/pattern, hence the name.

Below the nuchal occipital bone, behind the upper outer edge of the trapezius muscle and the upper end of the sternocleidomastoid muscle The depression between the edges. [Anatomy]

  • Muscle: Between the sternocleidomastoid muscle and the stop of the trapezius muscle, the deep layer is the splenium capitis muscle.
  • Nerve: branches of the lesser occipital nerve, and the medial part is the greater occipital nerve.
  • Vessels: branches of occipital artery and vein.

[Manipulation]

Insert 0.5 to 1.2 inches toward the inner canthus of the contralateral eye. Do not insert deeply, especially toward the outer canthus, tragus, or front edge of the tragus on the opposite side to prevent injury to the cranial cavity, medulla oblongata, or brain. Do not stab deeply toward the inner canthus of the same side of the eye to avoid injury to the vertebral artery. Generally no moxibustion is used.

[Efficacy]

dispelling wind, releasing exterior, clearing head, benefiting five sense organs and seven orifices.

  • Classical: headache, vertigo, Rebing Sweating, malaria, apoplexy, hyperthyroidism, strong neck pain, unclear vision, excessive eye discharge, excessive tears, Red pain, eye pain, ear diseases, allergic rhinitis, and muscular spasm.
  • Modern: hypertension, concussion, common cold, myopia, electronic ophthalmia, retinal artery obstruction, glaucoma, acute conjunctivitis, eyelid ptosis, hemifacial spasm, urticaria measles.
