bubble_chart Etymology

"Qu" (曲), bending; "chi" (池), depression. The acupoint is located at the outer depression at the bend of the elbow crease, hence the name.

Located at the lateral end of the transverse crease of the elbow; when the elbow is flexed, it is at the midpoint of the line connecting Chize (LU5) and the lateral epicondyle of the humerus.

  • Lingshu-Benshu: "In the depression near the outer side of elbow, at lateral side of forearm, can be found by flexing arm";
  • Qianjin Yifang: "Within the transverse crease above the elbow";
  • Taiping Shenghui Fang: "In the depression at the end of the transverse crease formed when the elbow is bent";
  • Xunjing Kaoxue Bian >: "located directly opposite Shaohai (HT3) on the lower side".

  • Muscles: radial side of the brachioradialis joint, origin of extensor carpi radialis longus, radial side of brachioradialis muscle.
  • Nerve: dorsal cutaneous nerve of the forearm, the deep medial layer is the trunk of the radial nerve (approximately 1.3 to 3.3 cm under the skin).
  • Vessels: radial artery and venous branches.

Insert perpendicularly 1–1.5 cun or obliquely toward the medial side of the elbow (Shaohai (HT3)) 1–2 cun.

Disperse pathogenic heat, benefit joints, expel wind-dampness, and regulate qi and blood.

  • Classical: residual fever after cold injury, red eyes and pain, toothache, pharyngitis, arm swelling and pain, pain in elbow with difficulty in flexion and extension, hemiplegia, absence of menstruation, scrofula, urticaria, hyperthyroidism, chest distress and fullness, convulsion, epilepsy, headache, neck swelling, and wrist urgency.
  • Modern: fever, influenza, pneumonia, apoplexy, hemiplegia due to stroke, tonsillitis, external humeral epicondylitis, neuralgia of the elbow and arm, scapular neuralgia, hypertension, urticaria measles.
