Originally derived from the name of a celestial phenomenon. "Tian" (天), upper part; "chong" (衝), thoroughfare, here indicating the pathway of qi and blood in head. The point is located on the upper part of head, hence the name.

  • Tongren Shuxue Zhenjiu Tujings : "2 cun within hairline behind ear";
  • Xunjing Kaoxue Bian : "0.3 cun posterior to ear, 2 cun within hairline";
  • Yixue Rumen: "1.5 cun posterior to Chengling (GB18)", meaning it is located beside Chengling ( GB18).
