"Da" (大), big; "heng" (橫), transverse. The point is located at the level of the large horizontal crease beside navel, hence the name.

In the middle of abdomen, 4 cun lateral to the center of umbilicus, in the depression at the lateral border of rectus abdominis muscle.

  • Zhenjiu Jiayi Jing: "3 cun below Fu'ai (SP16), directly beside the umbilicus" ;
  • Leijing Tuyi: "3.5 cun below Fu'ai (SP16), level with umbilicus, 3.5 cun lateral to the midline";
  • Zhenfang Liuji: "Horizontally beside the umbilicus, at the level of the large horizontal crease, directly above between two breasts, 4 cun lateral to conception vessel on both sides."
  • Zhenjiu Zisheng Jing: "4.5 cun lateral to the midline of abdomen".
There are discrepancies among various texts regarding the distance from the anterior midline. Currently, the measurement of 4 cun as stated in Zhenfang Liuji is adopted.

  • Classical: Severe wind and counterflow qi, frequent cold and susceptibility to sadness, fright and fear, palpitations with weakness, diarrhea, profuse diarrhea, constipation, cold pain in lower abdomen, deficiency cold in middle jiao, inability to move limbs, heat in lower abdomen, desire to move with sighing.
  • Modern: biliary ascariasis, intestinal ascariasis, intestinal paralysis.
