The upper corner of the scapula on the back of the shoulder, between Jianjing (GB21) and Quyuan (SI13), about the same as Taodao (GV13) is the midpoint of the line connecting the spinous process of the first thoracic vertebra and the acromion.

[Anatomy]

  • Muscles: trapezius, supraspinatus.
  • Nerve: The lateral supraclavicular nerve and the posterior branch of the eighth cervical nerve overlap in distribution, accessory nerve, and the deep layer is the muscular branch of the suprascapular nerve.
  • Vessel: Descending branch of the transverse cervical artery, deep layer is the muscular branch of the suprascapular artery.

[Manipulation]

Perpendicular insertion or oblique insertion 0.5~0.8 inches, not too deep. moxa cone moxibustion 3 to 7 strong, moxa stick warm moxibustion for 5 to 15 minutes.

[Efficacy]

  • Classical: body heat and inability to sweat, chest fullness and pain, heavy shoulder pain and inability to lift, Quepen (ST12) pain, neck urgency, and nape enlargement.
  • Modern: periarthritis of the shoulder.

  • Shoulder weight pain and inability to lift: Tianliao (TE15), Quchi (LI11).
