This point belongs to foot taiyang bladder meridian, which has a total of 67 points. It is the last point on this meridian, where foot taiyang meridian connects to foot shaoyin meridian. It signifies the transition from yang to yin, hence the name "Zhiyin" (reaching yin).

On lateral side of distal segment of little toe, approximately 0.1 cun from corner of toenail.
  • Lingshu-Benshu: "At tip of little toe";
  • Zhenjiu Jiayi Jing: "On lateral side of little toe, a leek-leaf distance from toenail." In other words, it is located in the depression 0.1 cun posterior to lateral corner of little toenail.

  • Classical: Heaviness in head, epistaxis, spasm and convulsion, absence of sweating, irritability, nuchal pain, eye nebula, difficulty urinating, pain in chest and hypochondriac area, retching and vomiting, hernia, stillbirth, retained placenta, transverse fetal position, itching, swollen ankles and knees, heat in sole, wind-cold starting from little toe causing numbness and pain traveling up to the chest and ribs with shifting pain, nocturnal emission.
  • Modern: abnormal fetal position, prolonged labor, retained placenta.
