  1. Diuretic effect: Corn Stigma has a diuretic effect on both humans and rabbits, increasing the excretion of chlorides, but the effect is relatively weak. The water extract's methanol-insoluble part, after dialysis (A), has the strongest diuretic effect, showing significant results whether administered orally, subcutaneously, or intravenously. The diuretic effect is mainly extrarenal, with a very weak effect on the kidneys.
  2. Effect on the circulatory system: Intravenous injection of the decoction in anesthetized dogs has a significant hypotensive effect, but in chronic neck-stirred pulse bridge dogs, daily administration for three consecutive weeks does not show a hypotensive effect. At low concentrations, A has a vasodilatory effect on peripheral blood vessels.
  3. Hypoglycemic effect: The fermentation preparation of Corn Stigma has a very significant hypoglycemic effect on rabbits.
  4. Choleretic and hemostatic effects: Corn Stigma preparations can promote the excretion of bile, reduce its viscosity, and decrease its bilirubin content, thus can be used as a choleretic for patients with uncomplicated chronic cholecystitis and bile duct inflammation with bile excretion disorders. It also accelerates the blood coagulation process, increases the prothrombin content in the blood, and raises the platelet count, hence can be used as a hemostatic medicinal and diuretic for bladder and urinary tract stones.
