It is harvested in August to September and used fresh or dried. It is cultivated in various regions, with the black water calptrop base peel distributed south of the Yangtze River, the crownless water calptrop base peel distributed in Northeast, North, Northwest, East, and Central China, and the grid water calptrop base peel distributed in Heilongjiang, Jilin, and various parts of North China.
