This product is the nearly mature or mature fruit of the evergreen vine Pepper Fruit, belonging to the Pepper Fruit family. It is mainly produced in Hainan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, and other regions. The fruit is harvested from late autumn to the following spring when it turns dark green, then dried to produce black Pepper Fruit; when the fruit turns red, it is harvested, soaked in water, the flesh is rubbed off, and then dried to produce white Pepper Fruit. It is used in its raw form and crushed when needed.

  1. Used for stomach cold, epigastric cold pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. To treat stomach cold epigastric pain and vomiting, it can be used alone by grinding into powder and stewing in pig stomach, or used together with Lesser Galangal Rhizome and Piper longum. To treat diarrhea due to deficiency-cold of spleen and stomach, it can be used with Evodia Fruit, White Atractylodes Rhizome, etc.; it can also be used alone by grinding into powder and applying to the navel.
  2. Used for epilepsy. Mainly for treating epilepsy with excessive phlegm due to qi depression and obstruction of the seven orifices. It can be used with Piper longum in equal parts as powder, or as recorded in Zhouhou Fang, by placing Pepper Fruit in radish, drying in shade, and grinding into powder for consumption.
  3. In addition, as a seasoning, it has the effect of stimulating appetite and promoting digestion.
