bubble_chart Formula Principles

This formula is derived from Minor Bupleurum Decoction by removing Bupleurum and Fresh Ginger Rhizome, and adding Coptis Rhizome and Dried Ginger. Originally, it was used to treat Minor Bupleurum Decoction syndrome caused by erroneous purgation that damages the middle, leading to inward invasion of pathogenic factors, affecting the middle energizer, resulting in dysfunction of spleen and stomach qi movement, qi stagnation, and a mixture of cold and heat, forming a fullness syndrome. In the formula, Coptis Rhizome and Skullcap Root are bitter and cold, clearing heat and harmonizing yang; Dried Ginger and Pinellia open stagnation and dissipate nodules, downbear counterflow to stop vomiting, warm the stomach and harmonize the middle, and disperse dampness to harmonize yin; Ginseng, Liquorice Root, and Chinese Date tonify the middle and replenish qi, restoring the spleen and stomach's ascending and descending functions, and aiding in the dissipation of stagnation. The combination of these herbs applies both warming and clearing therapies to harmonize yin and yang, advances both bitter and acrid flavors to regulate ascending and descending, and combines tonification and purgation to reinforce healthy qi and eliminate pathogenic factors, collectively achieving the effect of draining the heart and dissipating stagnation.
