This book was written by Wang Lun in the Jiajing year of Jiyou (1502). Xue Ji mentioned that it had been "published for years," but the original edition is not seen today. The versions available are all Xue Ji annotated editions, published in 1549. There are more than 10 existing editions, including the Hongzhi edition, the Jiajing 28th year (1549) edition, the Wanli edition, the Japanese Shoho 2nd year and Joo 3rd year editions, and the punctuated edition by Jiangsu Science and Technology Publishing House in 1985.

Wang's academic lineage follows Danxi, integrating the academic experiences of Zhu and Li (Dongyuan), combined with his own insights and clinical experiences to form this book. The book consists of 6 volumes. Volumes 1 to 3 discuss medical theories and the treatment of Zabing, including internal diseases such as fever, pulmonary tuberculosis, diarrhea, dysentery, cough, phlegm-fluid retention, as well as gynecological and five sense organs diseases, analyzing the treatment methods of Li Dong-yuan and Zhu Dan-xi; Volume 4 focuses on wind syndromes; Volume 5 discusses pediatric treatments; and Volume 6 contains appended prescriptions.
