"Ju" (巨), big; "liao" (髎), pore in the bone. This acupoint is located in the larger depression between zygomatic bone (cheekbone) and mandible (jawbone).

On the face, in the depression directly below the pupil and level with the lower border of the nasal ala. It is located lateral to the nasolabial groove and on the midline of the eye.

  • Muscles: levator labii superioris, levator anguli oris.
  • Nerves: Infraorbital branch of the trigeminal nerve, buccal branch of the facial nerve.
  • Vessels: Facial artery, vein and converging branches of infraorbital artery and vein.

Perpendicular insertion: 0.3~0.5 cun. Alternatively, oblique insertion toward Sibai (ST2) to penetrate.

Dispell wind, relieve stuffy orifices.

  • Classical: Internal visual obstruction, red and painful eyes, excessive tearing, crooked mouth and eyes, eyelid twitching, myopia, epistaxis, toothache, swollen jaw, swollen lips and cheeks, aversion to wind and cold in face, neck swelling and pain, spasm and convulsion, glaucoma, nasal congestion, blurred vision, visual obstruction.
  • Modern: rhinitis, stuffy nose, trigeminal neuralgia, facial nerve paralysis.
