Tianchuang (SI16) acupoint

On the lateral part of neck, at the level of the Adam's apple, on the posterior border of the sternocleidomastoid muscle. Located 0.5 cun superior-posterior to Futu (LI18).
- Zhenjiu Jiayi Jing: "Below the curved cheek, behind Futu (LI18), in the depression where the pulse is palpable";
- Zhenjiu Jicheng: "2 cun directly below ear".

- Muscles: the anterior edge of trapezius muscle, the posterior edge of levator scapulae muscle, and the deep layer is splenius capitis muscle.

- Classical: cheek swelling and pain, shoulder pain radiating to neck, tinnitus, deafness, acute hoarseness with inability to speak, cold in throat with hoarseness, flaccid paralysis due to stroke, throat pain, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, goiter, neck pain, headache, urticaria, manic and depressive psychosis, shoulder painradiating to neck, locked jaw, sweating, hemorrhoid and fistula.
- Modern: goiter.

- Stroke, sudden loss of voice, inability to speak, and flaccid paralysis: First, apply moxibustion to Tianchuang (SI16) for 50 cones. After finishing, move to Baihui (GV20) and apply moxibustion for 50 cones. Finally, return to Tianchuang (SI16) and apply moxibustion for another 50 cones.
- Locked jaw: Tianchuang (SI16), Yifeng (TE17).
- Tonsillitis: for single tonsil swelling, Insert the needle deeply at Tianchuang (SI16) on the affected side, 1~2 cun toward throat, then withdraw immediately. Have the patient swallow saliva freely. This method is highly effective. For double tonsil swelling: Tianchuang (SI16), Chize (LU5), Shenmen (HT7), Zusanli (ST36), Taixi (KI3), additionally, needle Shaoshang (LU11) and perform a three-needle row puncture at the base of the thumbnail.
- Goiter: Tianchuang (SI16), Naohui (TE13).
