"Yu" (彧), literary elegance or flourishing; "zhong" (中), center or middle. Lung is the organ associated with literary elegance, and this acupoint is located on chest, related to lung, hence its name.

Located 2 cun lateral to the midline of chest (Huagai (CV20)), in the depression of first intercostal space.
  • Zhenjiu Jiayi Jing: "Located 1.6 cun below Shufu (KI27), in the depression";
  • Xunjing Kaoxue Bian: "2 cun lateral to the center of chest Huagai (CV20)".

  • Muscles: pectoralis major, external intercostal membrane, internal intercostal muscles. (deep layer: lung).
  • Nerve: anterior cutaneous branch of first intercostal nerve; deep layer: first intercostal nerve; subcutaneously, medial supraclavicular nerve.
  • Vessel: first intercostal artery and vein.

Transverse insertion 0.3~0.5 cun. Avoid deep insertion. Moxibustion with moxa cone 3 to 5 times, moxibustion with moxa stick for 5 to 10 minutes.

Disinhibit qi, relieve wheezing.

  • Classical: coughing with counterflow of qi, excessive salivation, fullness in chest and flanks, wheezing and palpitation with inability to sit still, vomiting and poor appetite.
  • Modern: pleuritis, costochondritis.
