bubble_chart Efficacy

Nourishing yin and soothing the liver.

bubble_chart Indications

Hypochondriac pain, vomiting of sour fluid, dry throat and mouth, red tongue with scant coating, and a fine, rapid or wiry and weak pulse due to liver-kidney yin deficiency and constrained liver qi.

bubble_chart Formula Principles

The name "All-Along Decoction" refers to the fact that the liver (Yi) and kidney (Gui) share the same source, with the liver storing blood and the kidney storing essence, which can mutually nourish each other. Therefore, nourishing the kidney and the liver can be achieved through the same treatment method, treating them simultaneously. The term "All-Along" implies that a single principle runs through all things, meaning that liver and kidney yin deficiency can be treated with the same method and the same formula. The dosage form is a decoction, hence the name "All-Along Decoction." This formula is specifically designed for cases of liver and kidney insufficiency, where the liver is not properly nourished, leading to liver qi depression and resulting in hypochondriac region pain. Generally, hypochondriac pain caused by liver qi depression is often treated by soothing the liver and regulating qi. However, qi-regulating medicinals are mostly aromatic and drying in nature, and when used in constitutions with liver-kidney yin deficiency, they can deplete fluids and damage qi, potentially exacerbating the condition. Therefore, the treatment should focus on enriching yin, with appropriate use of liver-soothing ingredients. Thus, this formula uses Unprocessed Rehmannia Root as the sovereign herb to nourish the liver and kidney, supported by Coastal Glehnia Root, Ophiopogon Tuber, and Lycium Fruit to enhance the nourishing effect of Unprocessed Rehmannia Root. Chinese Angelica is used to nourish blood and harmonize the liver, and a small amount of Chinaberry Fruit is added to avoid the drying nature that could damage yin, while still exerting its liver-soothing and qi-regulating effects. This ensures that the liver is nourished and liver qi flows smoothly, thereby alleviating hypochondriac region pain.
