bubble_chart Efficacy

Moving qi and removing food stagnation, clearing heat and promoting bowel movements.

bubble_chart Indications

The syndrome of food retention and dampness-heat accumulation. Symptoms include abdominal distension and fullness, pain, dysentery with red and white discharge, tenesmus, yellow and greasy tongue coating, deep and solid pulse. It is also used to treat severe constipation.

bubble_chart Formula Principles

This formula is a remedy for moving qi and removing food stagnation. The conditions it treats are often caused by the accumulation and stagnation of food and dampness-heat, leading to the obstruction of qi movement. In the formula, Aucklandia Root and Areca Seed are used to move qi, resolve stagnation, and alleviate abdominal distension, fullness, and pain, as well as to relieve tenesmus. Rhubarb Rhizoma, Mirabilite, and Pharbitis Seed are employed to attack accumulation, guide stagnation, purge heat, and promote bowel movements, thereby expelling heat and excess pathogens. Additionally, green tangerine peel and Dried Tangerine Peel are used to move qi and resolve accumulation, enhancing the qi-regulating effects of Aucklandia Root and Areca Seed. Furthermore, Cyperus, Sparganium Rhizome, and Zedoary Rhizome are included to soothe the liver, relieve depression, and break the qi within blood stasis. Submature Bitter Orange is used to lower qi and relax the intestines, moving qi in the chest and abdomen to alleviate stuffiness and fullness. Lastly, Coptis Rhizome and Phelloendron Bark are used to clear heat and dry dampness, thereby stopping diarrhea.
