bubble_chart Efficacy

Relieving summer heat with traditional Chinese medicine.

In summer, improper diet leads to internal damage from cold and raw foods, and external contraction of summer heat. Symptoms include chest and diaphragm stuffiness and fullness, blurred vision, headache, fatigue, aversion to cold with fever, and cholera-like vomiting and diarrhea.

bubble_chart Formula Principles

This formula is Patchouli Qi-Righting Powder with the removal of Perilla Leaf, Dahurian Angelica, Dried Tangerine Peel, Areca Peel, Platycodon Root, and the addition of Ginseng, Hyacinth Bean, Floweringqince Fruit, Villous Amomum Fruit, Bitter Apricot Seed. Dampness injures the spleen and stomach, leading to dysfunction in the ascending and descending of qi, resulting in dampness obstruction and qi stagnation, and disharmony in transportation and transformation, hence symptoms like stuffiness and fullness, vomiting, and diarrhea; the sinews and vessels lose nourishment, leading to spasmodic pain; external contraction of summerheat qi causes disharmony in the defensive exterior, hence symptoms like blurred vision, headache, and alternating chills and fever. In the formula, ginseng, atractylodes, poria, and licorice tonify the spleen and replenish qi to overcome dampness; Magnolia Bark, Villous Amomum Fruit soothe the spleen and move qi, as qi movement leads to dampness transformation; Floweringqince Fruit, Hyacinth Bean disperse summerheat and awaken the spleen, dispel dampness, and relax the sinews; as for Patchouli, it not only expels summerheat and resolves dampness, opens the stomach and stops vomiting, but also cooperates with ginger and jujube to disperse exterior pathogens. Judging from the combined effects of the various herbs, this formula tonifies the spleen and replenishes qi, dispels dampness and harmonizes the stomach, and also has dispersing properties. It is most suitable for the aforementioned symptoms in summer.
