This product is the dried ripe fruit of the perennial herbaceous plant of the Zingiberaceae family, Yangchun Sharen (Amomum villosum Lour.) or Hainan Sharen (A. longiligulare T. L. Wu) or Suosha (A. xanthioides Wall.). Yangchun Sharen is mainly produced in Guangdong and Guangxi on the mainland. Hainan Sharen is mainly produced in Hainan Island and Zhanjiang area of Guangdong. Suosha is produced in Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, and other places. Yangchun Sharen is of superior quality. The fruits are harvested when ripe during the summer and autumn, then dried in the sun or at low temperatures. They are crushed and used raw when needed.
