In ancient times, the area between eyebrows on forehead was referred to as "闕" (què). Astrologers and physiognomists called this area "Yintang" (印堂, hall of impression). The acupoint is located here, hence its name.

- Muscles: procerus muscle.
- Vessels: branches of medial frontal artery and vein on both sides.
- Nerve: branches of trochlear nerve and facial nerve.

Puncture obliquely or horizontally, downward or laterally, 0.5~1 cun. Upon achieving needling sensation, a local soreness and distension will be felt. If the needle penetrates toward Shangen (EX-HN33) (root of nose), a soreness and distension sensation will be felt in nasal area.
Alternatively, prick with a three-edged needle to induce bleeding.

Forehead pain, vertigo, rhinitis, epistaxis, common cold with fever, hypertension, insomnia, vomiting, postpartum dizziness with aphasia due to hemorrhage, eclampsia, infantile convulsion.
