"Cheng" (承), to receive or hold; "jiang" (漿) refers to liquid or water. When liquid enters mouth, lower lip receives it. The acupoint is located in the depression of lower lip. Shiming‧Shi Xingti (Explanation of Names‧Explanation of the Body): "Below mouth is called Chengjiang, as it receives liquid."

Located on face, in the depression at the center of mentolabial groove (the groove between lower lip and chin).
- Zhenjiu Jiayi Jing: "In front of chin, below lip";
- Zhenjiu Dacheng: "In the depression below lip ridge";
- Donggong Anmo Mijue: "0.5 cun below lip, in the exact center".
