[Origin]

Wan, or "tube", refers to the stomach and intestines. The point is near the upper part of the stomach, hence its name.

5 inches above the midline of the upper abdomen mid umbilicus. When Zhongwan (CV12) is 1 cun above and 3 cun below the Qi bone (the junction of the chest and sword).

[Anatomy]

  • Muscles: in the middle of the abdominal line alba; the deep part is the lower edge of the liver and the Youmen (KI21) part of the stomach.
  • Nerve: medial branch of the anterior cutaneous branch of the seventh intercostal nerve.
  • Blood vessels: branches of superior epigastric artery and vein.

[Manipulation]

Perpendicular insertion 1~1.5 inches. moxa cone moxibustion 3 to 7 weeks, moxa stick warm moxibustion for 15 to 20 minutes.

[Efficacy]

  • Classical: epigastralgia, fluid retention, inability to eat, fluid retention, blocked diaphragm, hiccup, abdominal distension and fullness, infantile malnutrition with accumulation, palpitations, dizziness, regurgitation, vomiting, hematemesis, consumptive disease.
