"Shang" (上), above ; "guan" (關), pivot.
Located at the midpoint of the upper border of zygomatic arch in front of ear, above jaw joint, opposite Xiaguan (ST7), hence the name.
As the meeting point of hand and foot shaoyang, and foot yangming meridians, it is likened to a "Ke" (客, guest, refers to yangming) meeting the "zhuren" (主人, host, refers to shaoyang), hence also known as "Kezhuren" (客主人, guest-host).

Xiaguan (ST7). Approximately at the midpoint of the line connecting outer canthus and the tip of tragus.
