[Origin]

Pupil refers to the eye; Liao refers to the acupoint. The acupuncture point is next to the eye, hence the name. It is located in front of the Yaguan, also known as "Qianguan".

[Anatomy]

• Muscles: orbicularis oculi, deep layer is temporalis muscle.
• Nerves: zygomaticofacial nerve, zygomaticotemporal nerve, temporal and frontal branch of facial nerve.
• Vessels: zygomaticoorbital artery and vein.

[Manipulation]

Along the skin to the rear ( Taiyang (EX-HN5) ) transverse insertion 0.5 ~ 1 inch. No moxibustion.

[Efficacy]

dispelling wind, venting heat, improving vision.

• Classical: bluish blindness (optic atrophy), farsightedness, external canthus, red pain, fear of light, blindness, itching, headache, eyelid.
• Modern: conjunctivitis, keratitis, retinal membrane inflammation, night blindness, optic atrophy, myopia, deviation of mouth, hemifacial spasm, trigeminal neuralgia.

• nyctalopia: Tongziliao (GB1), Jingming (BL1), Yanglao (SI6), Zusanli (ST36 ).
• Intraocular obstruction: Tongziliao (GB1), Jingming (BL1), Hegu (LI4), Zulinqi (GB41 ).
