"Nao" (臑), upper arm; "hui" (會), to meet or convergence. The point is located between Binao (LI14) and Naoshu (SI10), hence its name.

On extensor aspect of upper arm, on the line connecting the tip of elbow and Jianliao (TE14), 3 cun below Jianliao (TE14), in the depression at posterior and inferior border of deltoid muscle.

  • Muscle: between long head and lateral head of triceps brachii.
  • Nerve: posterior brachial cutaneous nerve, muscular branch of radial nerve, deep layer is radial nerve.
  • Vessels: middle collateral arteries and veins.

Insert perpendicularly or obliquely toward the center of the deltoid muscle, 1~1.5 cun in depth. Moxibustion with moxa cone 3 to 5 seconds, moxibustion with moxa stick for 5 to 15 minutes.

Dissipat nodules.

  • Classical: goiter, scrofula, depressive psychosis, pharyngeal swelling, arm pain.
  • Modern: periarthritis of shoulder.
