Spirit refers to the heart; Xu refers to the place. The seal of the gods and the ruins of the spirit are both related to the heart.

Two cun lateral to the midline of the chest (Yutang (CV18)), in the depression of the third intercostal space.

bubble_chart Anatomy

  • Muscles: pectoralis major, external intercostal membrane, internal intercostal muscles. (The deep layer is the lungs, and the left side is the heart).
  • Nerve: The anterior cutaneous branch of the third intercostal nerve, and the deep layer is the third intercostal nerve.
  • Vessel: third intercostal artery and vein.

oblique insertion or transverse insertion 0.3~0.5 cun. Avoid deep insertion. Moxibustion with moxa cone 3 to 5 minutes, moxibustion with moxa stick for 5 to 10 minutes.

  • Classical: Fullness of the middle branch of the chest, pain leading to inability to rest, nausea, confusion, irritability and fullness that cannot lie down, coughing, vomiting, and no craving for food.
  • Modern: tachycardia, mastitis, costochondritis.
