"Shen" (神), spirit, heart storing spirit. "feng" (封), to seal or store, Suwen-Liujie Cangxiang Lun: "kidney is the root of sealing and storing." This acupoint belongs to kidney meridian but is located near heart, thus it is related to both, hence its name.

Located 2 cun lateral to the midline of chest (Tanzhong (CV17)), in the depression of fourth intercostal space.

  • Muscles: pectoralis major, external intercostal membrane, internal intercostal muscles. (deep layer: lung, and heart on left side)
  • Nerve: anterior cutaneous branch of fourth intercostal nerve. (deep layer: fourth intercostal nerve)
  • Vessels: fourth intercostal artery and vein.
