bubble_chart Etymology

"Bu" (步), walking; "lang" (廊), corridor. The center is called "courtyard" (庭), and the two sides are called "corridors" (廊). The acupoint is located beside Zhongting (中庭, CV16), hence the name.

Located 2 cun lateral to the midline of chest (Zhongting (CV16)), in the depression of fifth intercostal space.

bubble_chart Anatomy

  • Muscles: origin of pectoralis major, external intercostal membrane, internal intercostal muscles. (deep layer: lower edge of liver on right and the heart on left)
  • Nerve: anterior cutaneous branch of fifth intercostal nerve, and the deep layer is fifth intercostal nerve.
  • Vessels: fifth intercostal artery and vein.

oblique or transverse insertion 0.3~0.5 cun, avoid deep insertion. Moxibustion with moxa cone 3 to 5 minutes, moxibustion with moxa stick for 5 to 10 minutes.

Soothe chest, disinhibit qi, descend counterflow.

  • Classical: Fullness in chest and hypochondriac region, shortness of breath, wheezing with inability to raise arms, vomiting, poor appetite, diaphragm obstruction, nasal congestion.
  • Modern: intercostal neuralgia, palpitation, severe palpitation.
