Shen Yaozi on the Year of Ji Chou (己丑), the Beginning of Autumn

Acne, while its local disease causes are related to factors such as excessive oil production in hair follicles, blockage, bacterial infection, etc., delving deeper, it is also connected to internal environmental factors (constitution), including imbalances in endocrine and trace elements as discovered by modern medicine. Think about it, why does your face produce so much oil while others don't? Why do your pimples easily become red, swollen, and pus-filled, while others' do not? People with very oily skin are generally related to internal heat and deficient fire, often due to staying up late, increased stress, excessive physical exertion, or a preference for grilled, fried, spicy, and sugary foods that are prone to "heatiness". Such individuals also tend to have imbalanced immunity (usually a deficient sensitivity, causing unnecessary inflammation at the affected area), making it easier for bacteria to thrive, leading to redness, swelling, pus, and prolonged non-healing of the affected area.

Apart from constitutional factors, it may also be due to the skin being externally constrained by improper wind, cold, and dampness (such as being exposed to wind or rain while sweating), affecting the surface circulation , causing the skin's pores and sweat glands to be unable to expel metabolic waste and oil smoothly, leading to accumulation. Immunity also cannot reach the skin surface effectively, causing pore blockage, bacterial growth, and thus the disease. Modern medicine has yet to understand this factor, making it impossible to cure acne caused by such disease causes.

Simply applying medicine to the affected area may seem temporarily effective, but recurrence is easy once the medication is stopped. This is because the constitution has not changed, bad habits remain, or the external constraints of wind and cold have not been removed. In treating acne, we use Chinese medicinals on one hand to regulate the internal environment and balance the functions of the zang-fu organs, and on the other hand, we require patients to develop good lifestyle and dietary habits. For external treatment, we provide patients with Chinese medicinals that have bactericidal, anti-inflammatory, and anti-swelling effects, with almost no side effects and no resistance to medicinal properties.

For recurrent and severely abscessed lesions, since the affected area has a certain degree of fibrosis and microcirculation obstruction, the efficacy of oral or topical medications is greatly reduced. We supplement with bloodletting and upper consumptive thirst inflammatory Chinese medicinal powder treatment, which can surprisingly restore the condition in a short time. However, for those with existing scars or severe depressions, it is difficult to restore the original smoothness, and surgical treatments such as dermabrasion from modern medicine may be required.
