It is produced in various regions of mainland China, with Jiangsu being a major source. The best quality is characterized by dryness, a grayish-white color, firm texture, and absence of impurities. Those with a grayish-black color or containing brick debris impurities are unsuitable for medicinal use. Counterfeit products, often made of cement, can be easily identified by their non-granular surface, heavy weight, lack of layered texture in cross-section, and hard texture.
