This product is the dried phloem of the bark or root bark of the elm tree (Ulmus pumila LINN.) from the Ulmaceae family. It is found throughout China. The best quality is characterized by thick flesh, white color, and a sweet, slightly bitter taste. The old branches and root bark are harvested in spring and autumn, and the inner bark is immediately peeled off and dried in the sun.
