First, place arsenic and alum into a small pot, and calcine them with red-hot charcoal until the blue smoke dissipates and white smoke begins to rise. After a short while, when the contents turn red throughout, stop the fire. Let the pot sit on the ground overnight, then remove it to obtain about 30 grams of pure arsenic and alum powder.
