Grind the above three ingredients into powder, then add croton seeds and pound them in a mortar. Administer with plain water: a strong patient should take half a coin's weight (1.5 grams) of the powder, while a weak patient should take less. If the illness is above the diaphragm, the patient will vomit; if it is below the diaphragm, the patient will have diarrhea. If there is no diarrhea, give a cup of hot porridge; if the diarrhea does not stop, give a cup of cold porridge. If there is fever and unresolved skin bumps, and the patient desires to cover themselves with clothing, or if water is splashed or washed on them, it will further trap the heat and prevent it from escaping. If sweating should occur but does not, the patient will feel irritable. If sweating has already occurred and there is abdominal pain, administer 3 liǎng of peony as described above.
