Clearing heat and removing toxin, dredging collaterals and relieving pain.
Gangrene. It occurs on the fingers or toes, either at the tips, joints, or between the fingers. Initially, it may appear as white and extremely painful, or like a yellow blister resembling foxtail millet. The skin may look like a cooked Chinese date, turning black and not fading. Over time, it ulcerates and the joints fall off one by one, spreading to the back of the hands or feet, causing severe pain. It is now used for thromboangiitis obliterans, embolic gangrene with stirred pulse, and embolic phlebitis of the large veins, which are classified as heat-toxin type or dampness-heat type.
bubble_chart Formula Principles
The digital gangrene treated by this formula is caused by internal accumulation of heat toxin and poor blood circulation. In the formula, Lonicera is heavily used as the monarch herb to clear heat and remove toxin; Scrophularia Root serves as the minister herb to enrich yin, clear heat, and remove toxin; Chinese Angelica acts as the assistant herb to invigorate blood and harmonize the nutrient system; and raw Liquorice Root functions as the envoy herb to remove toxin and harmonize the various herbs. The combination of these four herbs collectively achieves the effects of clearing heat, removing toxin, dredging collaterals, and relieving pain.
