This formula is based on Yan's Jisheng Fang Returning to Spleen Decoction, with the addition of Chinese Angelica and Milkwort Root. It is primarily used to treat syndromes of dual deficiency of heart-spleen qi and blood. In the formula, ginseng, astragalus, atractylodes, and liquorice root warm and tonify qi to strengthen the spleen; Chinese Angelica and longan aril tonify blood and nourish the heart; sour jujube, poria, and milkwort root tranquilize the mind and calm the spirit; and aucklandia root regulates qi and awakens the spleen to prevent the tonifying and replenishing qi and blood herbs from causing stagnation and impairing the stomach. Combined, the formula addresses both the heart and spleen, and tonifies both qi and blood.
