1. Blood Heat Causing Bleeding︰In the first week after a baby's birth, around the time the umbilical cord falls off, there may be slight bleeding from the navel. Generally, there are no other systemic symptoms. This is often due to the nursing mother's improper diet and lifestyle, leading to heat consuming her blood and spoiling her milk, which in turn causes the baby to have excessive heat in the blood and reckless bleeding. The umbilical cord can be re-dressed to stop the bleeding. The nursing mother should pay attention to dietary adjustments and avoid the seven emotions and six excesses, as well as rich, greasy, or fried foods, to ensure the baby's well-being.

This condition occurs in adults who typically have kidney water deficiency or liver-kidney yin deficiency, leading to hyperactivity of kidney fire and yin deficiency with internal heat. The navel, known as Shenque, belongs to the Conception Vessel (Ren Mai). Heat disturbing the Thoroughfare and Conception Vessels forces reckless blood flow, resulting in bleeding from the navel. Key diagnostic points: vertigo, blurred vision, tinnitus, vexing heat in the chest, palms and soles, hyperactive sexual desire, seminal emission, premature ejaculation, insomnia, aching pain in the waist and knees, a red tongue with scant fluid, and a wiry, thin, and weak pulse. Treatment should focus on nourishing kidney yin, and options include Anemarrhena, Phelloendron and Rehmannia Pill or Left-Restoring Decoction.
