Ascaris is also known as roundworm, and vomiting ascaris refers to the expulsion of roundworms from the mouth.

Neijing refers to roundworms as "long worms," as mentioned in Suwen·Cough Discussion: "Coughing and vomiting, severe vomiting leads to the expulsion of long worms." Lingshu·Jue Lun also refers to roundworms as "worms with presence" and records the symptoms they cause. Jingui Yaolue mentions the term "vomiting ascaris." Zhengzhi Zhunsheng refers to it as "vomiting worms."

If there are roundworms in the abdomen, factors such as stomach cold or stomach heat, or alternating cold and heat in the stomach and intestines, can force the roundworms to be expelled from the mouth. Jingyue Quanshu·Vomiting states: "All cases of vomiting ascaris are due to illness causing the vomiting of ascaris, not due to ascaris causing vomiting. Therefore, it is not necessary to treat the ascaris, but to treat the cause of the vomiting, and the ascaris will naturally stop."

The roundworms become disturbed and ascend, exiting through the mouth. The characteristic symptoms include vomiting upon eating, intermittent restlessness, and signs of upper heat and lower cold (such as dry mouth, bitter taste, sore throat, nausea with a tendency to vomit, accompanied by diarrhea and cold limbs) or upper cold and lower heat (aversion to cold, nausea, vomiting, white tongue coating, accompanied by abdominal distension, fullness, constipation, and dark, scanty urine). Treatment involves dispelling cold, clearing heat, calming the stomach, and controlling roundworms, with modifications of Mume Pill as the primary formula.
