Acid regurgitation is similar in symptoms to acid regurgitation, commonly referred to as acid regurgitation. The disease causes, mechanisms of disease, and treatment methods are all different. "Those with acid regurgitation have sour water attacking upwards, causing a deficiency in the throat, which leads to spitting out and swallowing down, with a sour taste that stings the heart, resembling the condition of acid regurgitation" (Yilin Shengmo). "The disease is located at the highest part of the upper stomach," and "unlike acid regurgitation which is nearby, it is not in the upper stomach but in the middle energizer of the stomach, often causing nausea and vomiting, with everything vomited being sour, hence it is called acid regurgitation and is sluggish in movement" (Jingyue Quanshu).

Maijing refers to it as "acid regurgitation," Zhubing Yuanhou Lun calls it "acid regurgitation," and Sanyin Fang also refers to it as "throat acid."

Liver-stomach Disharmony︰Acid swallowing occurs intermittently, with a burning sensation in the stomach, accompanied by discomfort in the chest and hypochondrium, bitter taste in the mouth, dry throat, irritability, and susceptibility to anger. The tongue coating is thin and yellow, and the pulse is wiry and rapid. Due to emotional factors causing the illness, acid swallowing is treated by clearing the liver and regulating qi, harmonizing the stomach and descending adverse qi. The prescription used is Left Metal Pill supplemented with Bupleurum, Gardenia, Clam Shell, green tangerine peel, Curcuma Root, and similar herbs.

Food Stagnation︰Acid swallow occurs occasionally, with a burning sensation in the stomach, belching of foul-smelling undigested food, gastric stuffiness, anorexia, a yellow and greasy tongue coating, and a slippery pulse. This is due to dietary injury. Liver qi depression acid swallow results from anger damaging the liver, leading to liver depression and qi stagnation, which transversely invades the stomach. Hence, acid swallow occurs occasionally, accompanied by a burning sensation in the stomach, as well as symptoms of liver qi depression such as discomfort in the chest and hypochondrium, irritability, bitter taste in the mouth, and dry throat. Food accumulation acid swallow arises from irregular diet, where food accumulation injures the stomach, obstructing the movement of middle energizer qi and impairing stomach descent. Consequently, acid swallow occurs occasionally, with a burning sensation in the stomach, along with symptoms of dyspepsia such as belching of foul-smelling undigested food, gastric stuffiness, anorexia, and a thick, greasy tongue coating. Treatment involves promoting digestion and removing food stagnation, regulating qi, and harmonizing the middle. The formula used is Harmony-Preserving Pill with modifications.
3. Internal Obstruction of Cold-dampness︰Acid swallow occurs occasionally, accompanied by chest stuffiness, gastric stuffiness, poor appetite, white and slippery tongue coating, and wiry-slippery pulse manifestation. Due to excessive consumption of raw or cold food, or external exposure to dampness pathogens, dampness obstructs the middle energizer, leading to qi stagnation and dysfunction of the spleen and stomach in digestion and transportation. Hence, symptoms such as chest stuffiness, poor appetite, and irregular qi movement manifest, with occasional acid swallow. This condition can be easily distinguished from liver qi depression acid swallow and food accumulation acid swallow. For acid swallow caused by cold-dampness internal obstruction, the treatment focuses on nourishing the liver and stomach, regulating qi, and harmonizing the middle energizer. The recommended formula is Cyperus, Amomum and Six Gentlemen Decoction.
