This product is the tuber of the perennial herbaceous plant Black Sparganium Rhizome (Sparganium stoloniferum Buch.-Ham.) of the Sparganium Rhizome family. It is mainly produced in Jiangsu, Henan, Shandong, Jiangxi, and other regions. It is harvested from winter to the following spring, washed, peeled, dried in the sun, and used raw or after being processed with vinegar.

In addition to this product, the tuber of the Cyperaceae plant Sparganium Rhizome (Scirpus fluviatilis (Torr.) A. Gray) is also used as Sparganium Rhizome in some regions, with the medicinal name "Black Sparganium Rhizome".
