Postpartum lochiorrhea, or pain due to static blood after menstruation; or multiple abscesses with blood stasis and gastrointestinal pain in men after traumatic injuries, gradually developing into internal abscesses; and abdominal pain with dry stool accumulation. It can also be used to treat Weizhong toxin (acute pyogenic popliteal lymphadenitis), with local swelling, pain, slight hardness, and difficulty in bending.

In the formula, Sichuan Lovage Rhizome, Tail of Chinese Angelica, Red Paeony Root, Peony Bark, Sappan Wood, and Peach Kernel invigorate blood and resolve stasis, regulating the blood vessels. Submature Bitter Orange and Areca Seed break qi and eliminate stagnation, clearing the qi pathways. Rhubarb Rhizoma and Trichosanthis Fruit attack and expel stasis, moistening the intestines and dredging the bowels. Additionally, Areca Seed and Submature Bitter Orange assist Rhubarb Rhizoma in its expelling action. The blood-stasis-breaking properties of Chinese Angelica, Sichuan Lovage Rhizome, Peony Bark, and Red Paeony Root are enhanced by qi-regulating ingredients, thereby increasing the efficacy of stasis removal. The combination of medicinals in this formula is excellent. However, as it is fundamentally a formula for attacking and breaking, it must not be used recklessly in cases of blood deficiency without stasis.
