bubble_chart Overview

It is a tumor-like malformation formed by the disordered combination and excessive growth of normal lung tissue structure during embryonic development. It is a common benign lung tumor that grows slowly and rarely becomes malignant.

bubble_chart Diagnosis

1. Medical history and symptoms:

Most commonly seen in adults, usually asymptomatic. When the tumor is large or located near or within the bronchus, symptoms such as irritating cough, expectoration, dyspnea due to airway obstruction, and obstructive pneumonia may occur. Occasionally, hemoptysis and cyanosis may be present.

2. Physical examination findings:

Mostly no positive signs, or localized weakened breath sounds and wheezing. When there is inflammatory infection or obstructive atelectasis, corresponding pulmonary signs may appear.

3. Auxiliary examinations:

(1) Chest X-ray is the primary diagnostic tool, showing solitary round or oval shadows of varying sizes with smooth margins, sometimes lobulated, and calcifications or low-density areas may be seen within the tumor.

(2) Chest CT scan is more helpful for diagnosis.

(3) Transthoracic lung biopsy aids in the diagnosis of peripheral lung tumors.

4. Differential diagnosis:

Should be distinguished from lung cancer and other benign lung tumors.

bubble_chart Treatment Measures

Asymptomatic cases do not require treatment. For those with large tumors causing severe compression symptoms or accompanied by hemoptysis, surgical resection may be performed, and the prognosis is generally favorable.
