bubble_chart Overview

A nasal septum ulcer is a chronic inflammatory lesion of the nasal septum mucosa, submucosa, or even perichondrium caused by specific or non-specific harmful factors. It can occur in both adults and children.

bubble_chart Etiology

1. Dry environment, industrial dust, chemical gases, etc., can cause damage to the nasal septum mucosa.

2. Chronic nasal vestibulitis, nasal septum deformity, and nasal dryness lead patients to develop the bad habit of picking their noses with fingers, injuring the nasal septum mucosa.

3. Special infectious diseases, subcutaneous nodules, lupus, leprosy, syphilis invading the nasal cavity can cause nasal septum ulcers.

4. Early lesions of malignant granuloma of the nose.

bubble_chart Clinical Manifestations

During nasal examination, ulcers are often found, mostly located in the anterior part of the nasal septum. Patients frequently experience dryness and discomfort in the nose, occasionally with blood-streaked nasal discharge or dripping blood from the nostrils. The ulcer surface is usually covered with dry crusts, and removing them reveals the wound. If caused by specific infections or malignant granulomas, the ulcers vary in shape, are larger in size, deeper in the wound, and exhibit proliferative thickening at the edges. Various manifestations such as pus, bleeding spots, etc., may also be present. If the ulceration is deep, it may lead to perforation of the nasal septum.

bubble_chart Treatment Measures

Remove the disease cause. Locally, remove the dry scabs and apply 10% silver nitrate, then apply anti-inflammatory ointment. Systemically, take vitamin C, vitamin B2, etc. If there is a nasal septum deformity, it should be corrected.
